Styling Fall Midi Skirts

We’re all way to familiar with the maxi skirt and we’re no stranger to the mini skirt. However, the black sheep in the skirt family has blossomed and many more brands are branching out and creating their own. Midi skirts are rolling into department stores with all kinds of different fabrics, colors, and prints (not to mention price points). Like everything, there’s always high end options at more expensive prices with a higher quality factor. However, at the same time there’s always dupes at more affordable prices.

I have recently been loving midi skirts because they add a little something extra to my wardrobe. They either add a splash of color or a fun print to an all neutral ensemble. There’s always a few things to keep in mind when shopping for midi skirts : length and pairings. As far as length, you want the skirt to hit you above your ankle and below mid calf. Make sure to take your height into consideration when trying on midi skirts. Now, styling! Lucky for all of you I’ve been wearing midi skirts very often this past month and I’ve rounded up some of my favorite outfits as inspo for you guys below (adding some styling tips, of course)!
Tip: Adding a same midi length coat to a midi skirt creates an appealing balance to the outfit. It not only keeps you warm but keeps you looking sharp as well.
Tip: A skirt in general is a very feminine piece in a woman’s closet. Adding a little leather creates an edgier look especially when you want to dress a look down.
Tip: Create a color block effect with your wardrobe pieces. A color block ensemble is always a head turner. You can create an outfit like this by pairing solid color pieces that combine with the color palette of your midi skirt.
Tip: Polka dots never go out of style. If you’re looking to dip your toes into the midi skirt trend, start here. This piece will live in your closet for ages!
Tip: Style a very busy midi skirt with a white, gray, or black top. This will give your eye a resting space and let you embrace the beauty and detail of the skirt.
Tip: Don’t be afraid to go chunky on the top. I love pairing with oversized sweaters because it compliments my physique. However, many peeps thing that because maxi skirts are naturally flowy, adding an oversized factor on top might hide their curves. This is a definite possibility, but I think going all flowy is perfect for an ordinary casual day.
Tip: Try out a pop of color. A bright addition to your wardrobe creates new space for different energy. Pair these bright colors with different textures! (like the croc bag!)
Tip: You guys can never go wrong with the classic prints such as leopard, snake, tiger etc. They always, always, always make a comeback. I like to use the colors already in the print when thinking of combinations. For example: gray and black would pair amazingly with snakeskin– brown, orange, and black would pair great with a leopard skirt.
I hope I’ve made it a little easier on all of you shopping for midi skirts. If you’re not into the trend, that’s also okay! Make sure to stay tuned for more fall inspo headed your way on!
xx Gina
